Employment and Rare Conditions
Having a rare condition, or a disability, can affect your everyday life. I know because I have a rare condition – Fabry Disease. I was lucky, because it didn’t catastrophically affect me until I was older. I was lucky enough to have had a career which equipped me with the knowledge and experience. I now use that knowledge and experience to advocate for fellow individuals diagnosed with rare disease. However, for young people especially, a rare disease can affect your education, your employment opportunities and your everyday life – and more needs to be done to help. Some young people don’t have traditional education paths due to their condition, so how can talents be recognised to give these young people a chance? And for those of us who are older, what can be done to help us utilise our skills when affected by a rare condition?
